hexadecimal (hex)

Also written: hex, 0x, 0x prefix

Base 16, written with the digits 0 to 9 and a to f; one hex digit stands for 4 bits, so a byte is two hex digits (f5 is 245). A 0x in front, as in 0x80070070, only says 'this number is hex'.
