Asymmetric encryption

Also written: asymmetric, public-key cryptography, public-key crypto

Encryption where each person has a linked pair of keys, one public and one private, and what one key locks only the other can open. It solves the key-sharing problem but is slow, so it is mainly used to set up keys and to make signatures.
