Glossary: C# Beyond the Basics

ahead-of-time compilation (AOT)

Also written: AOT, PublishAot

A way of building a program into machine code before it runs, rather than while it runs. File-based C# apps use it by default, which turns off the reflection that `JsonSerializer` uses to discover a type's properties, so such apps need `#:property PublishAot=false` to serialize JSON.
