DAC (discretionary access control)

Also written: discretionary access control

An access control model where the owner of a file decides who else may use it, as when Priya shares her refunds file with Sam. Linux permissions and NTFS permissions are DAC. Its weakness is that owners, or malware running as them, can overshare.
