UPS (uninterruptible power supply)

Also written: uninterruptible power supply

A battery unit that keeps equipment running for a few minutes when the power fails, long enough to shut down safely or start a generator. Plan to load it to no more than about 80% of its rating, so Kettle & Crane's 1,200 W room needs a 1,500 W UPS.
