cache poisoning

Also written: DNS cache poisoning, poisoned cache, DNS poisoning

Putting a false entry into a cache, such as a DNS resolver's or a computer's ARP cache, so that every later lookup gets the wrong answer. When Kettle & Crane's office resolver stored 203.0.113.66 for the shop, everyone in the office was sent to the fake site, while Sam at home was fine.
