HTTP status codes

Also written: 404, 404 (Not Found), 404 Not Found, result code, status code

Three-digit numbers a web server sends back with every request to report the result, such as 200 OK or 404 Not Found, and records in its access log. Reading them in logs helps spot attacks: a burst of 404s from one IP address, all asking for common weak spots like `/wp-login.php` or `/.env`, points to an automated probe.
