Glossary: Protecting Data

Base64

Also written: base64, base64 -d

An encoding that rewrites data using 64 readable characters. It hides text only from a quick glance: the Linux base64 command turns 'Kettle' into S2V0dGxl, and base64 -d decodes it straight back, because no key is involved.
